Life of Discipline, Version 2
New year, new app! Better UI and a ton of new features. You're gonna looovveee it.
First off, I'd like to thank the Version 1 users.
A year ago, I was a self-taught software engineer who recently learned the basics of web development and decided to build the first version of Life of Discipline. The technologies I used were primitive and the code was a mess (ashamed...). The result was an app that kinda sucked. It worked, but it sucked badly. Yet, you still used it. So thank you for that. Because you stuck with me and even told your friends about it, my little project played a huge role in landing my first job in tech. You opened the door for my career and I'll forever be indebted.
Fast forward a year later and equipped with better engineering skills, I've rebuilt the app from the ground up. It's soooo much better now and I can't wait for you to try it! Here are the new features I've been working on. It all starts with the redesigned calendar heat map. It's interactive, try hovering over the cells!
Morning treadmill
1. Click on the calendar cells to log any specific day
(You can't do it with the heat map above, but you can with yours!)
Previously, you could only log your habits within a 7-day time frame. So if you were stuck in the woods for 8 days and you somehow managed to stick to your habits, you'd miss out on one entry. Now, you can simply click on any cell to log your entry on any selected day. No need to worry about missing your days!
2. Habit journals

Now, this is a super cool one. For premium users, you can now write notes alongside your daily entries for each habit. These are habit journals that you can use to track your progress and use for self-reflection. It helps me stay honest with myself about my progress. Self-reflection is key to building a life of discipline and it can be quite therapeutic. If you are into journaling like I am, you'd love this. Try hovering over each cell in the calendar above to see where your journals would appear!
3. Sunday weeks
Previously, weeks always started on Mondays. That's how it is where I live, but after countless feedback to include this feature, now you can customize your heat maps to start on Sundays! Simply head over to your settings tab to customize when your week starts.
4. Bring your own colors
For premium users, you can now bring your own colors! Try it out, pick a color:
Morning meditation
5. Keyboard shortcuts
Head over to your dashboard to see the new search bar. There press both commandK on your keyboard to bring up a search screen:

Search for any habits to log by name and hit return to quickly log habits. I got so used to it that entering my entries felt meditative and flow-like. Try it out, you'll know what I mean.
And... That's it for now!
New features are in the works, such as SMS notifications for US users (and Telegram/Whatsapp notifications for non-US users), new calendar types (such as Pomodoro calendars), more informative statistics, a year-in-review page for the end of 2023, and... Automation! Automation is a hard problem to solve, but a fun one. Stay tuned!!
Oh, and one more thing. Notice the "WE"s instead of "I"s around the site? Well, my partner, HY, is on her journey to become a software engineer and is helping out a ton in Life of Discipline. We are a team of 2 now, so hopefully we can deliver your features quicker. Alright, go use the app. Love ya'll.
